I Messed Up Book Tag

Thank you Danielle at the Introverted Book Nerd for tagging me!

A character appearance that you misread or imagined differently.

Jamie from Outlander, I’m not really sure how I pictured him. I think I just had a hard time actually picturing him.  But I love Sam Heughan’s portrayal. He’s amazing as Jamie. I wish I got to watch the show more, I’m way behind!

A character name that you have been pronouncing wrong.

I think everybody might have stuttered over Hermione from Harry Potter, at least until the movies came out!  Even Viktor Krum had a hard time with it!

And then  there’s Laoghaire  from Outlander.   I always thought it was La-heerie but it’s actually LEE-ree.  Oops!

An overused trope that is your guilty pleasure.

The one who appears as the good guy is the murderer. I love a good plot twist!

A cliche character type that you like better on screen than reading about.

It’s the funny ones, like the Weasley brothers!  They are so funny in the movies, it’s really difficult to capture that humour with the written word.

Have you ever not read or completed a required-reading book for school?

Never!

Have you ever skipped (or wanted to) a chapter from the point of view of a character you weren’t interested in?

Of course, but I never do. It might be important to the story later on! I have read the last page of a book before, though!

Have you ever canceled social plans to read a book?

Oh yes.

Soul Ripping Romance Tag!

TAG: Soul Ripping Romance

Many thanks to Jay at This is My Truth Now for this awesome new tag.  Jay is an amazing all round guy whose site always has great discussions and a ton of reviews.  Pop by his blog,(if you haven’t already!) and check it out!

The Guide:

  • Thank the person who tagged you and create a pingback to the original author (me).
  • Share at least 5 (but more are welcome) romances that tugged your heart strings. They can be from books, movies, TV shows, manga; anything you can think of! They can be examples of sad tears, angry tears, happy tears or a combination of all three.
  • Nominate 5 (or more) people to share their emotional traumas
  • (Note: Try not to spoil the story for your readers in case they would like to check out these romances on their own)

Rose and Jack

I bawled my eyes out watching the Titanic!  I loved these two together.  Jack, a penniless artist, saved Rose’s life when she attempted suicide to get out of an arranged marriage.  The two fall in love but are doomed when the ship hits an iceberg.  Jack dies in the freezing cold water of hypothermia and Rose was rescued.

Sandy and Danny

Sandy and Danny from Grease.  Two kids who meet and fall in love, thinking it’s only a summer fling and their lives would go back to normal in September.  They end up going to the same high school.  Sandy is the same, but Danny reveals his true self as a leather-wearing, greaser T-bird.  They both meet in the middle when Sandy comes out dressed to kill.  You’re the One that I Want!  You-hoo -hoo! Honey!

Daenerys Targaryen and Kahl Drogo

How hot were these two together on the Game of Thrones?   It broke my heart when Drogo died, he was such a powerful character.  But, that’s the Game of Thrones, anyone is fair game to be killed off!

Jaimie and Clair

I’ve read and loved all the Outlander books.  I was so excited when it came out as a TV series.  The only problem was, I couldn’t watch it with my sons around, just a wee bit too riske!  So, needless to say, I’m way behind, but it will make for a great binge watching session when I’m home alone!

Jim and PamGotta love these two from the Office!  One of my favourite shows.  I binge watched this just waiting for this cute couple to get together!

If you haven’t been tagged, feel free to participate and keep this chain going. Have a great day thinking about romance.

The Mid-Year Freakout Book Tag!

Thanks to Patty at Moohnshinescorner for tagging me!  I love Patty’s blog, she has tons of fun book reviews and little snippets into her daily life.  Stop by her blog and check it out!

Such an exciting thing to do discussing the middle of the year in our book challenges.

1 – THE BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2017

Really?  That is a tough one!  They were all good!  I’m going to take the easy way out and say all the books below except #5.  There.

2 – YOUR FAVORITE SEQUEL THIS YEAR

This is certainly not a new series, but its ‘new to me’.

I had read all the Harlan Coben books in the library and was looking for a good murder mystery.   I mentioned this to a friend of mine at the library and she suggested I try Henning Menkell’s Kurt Wallander series.

It’s a refreshing take on crime solving.  Kurt Wallander is a detective inspector in southern Sweden.  He has great instincts, but he is also real person, with real faults, he ages, he gets sick.  I find his character so refreshing because of this.  There’s a reflection of society in the books and I also enjoy reading about daily life in these Scandinavian and East European countries.

3 – A NEW RELEASE THAT YOU HAVEN’T READ BUT REALLY WANT TO

I’ve noticed the reviews on this one haven’t been the greatest.  That doesn’t stop me.  I have to read it for myself!

I LOVED the Girl on the Train and I’m hoping Paula Hawking doesn’t let me down 🙂

4 – MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

Yes.  Dan Brown.  I loved the Davinci Code in spite of some of the negativity surrounding his writing and plot, blah, blah, blah.  I. Can’t. Wait. for this book to come out!

5 – YOUR BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

I should explain that Harlan Coben gives a clear warning and an apology at the beginning of this book.  He wrote it when he was in his twenties and admits its not his best work.  I’ll forgive him for that!

So, although it is far fetched and just not very believable, I did enjoy the book and took it with a grain of salt based on Mr. Coben’s fair warning.

6 – BIGGEST SURPRISE OF THE YEAR

What an amazing book! A friend recommended this to me, and I really wasn’t sure about it…it just didn’t seem to be my thing.

But wow, I was blown away!

Sarah Nickerson is an over achieving, affluent mom and wife who finds her world turned upside down after a car accident.

A traumatic brain injury completely erases the left side of her world, and for once, Sarah relinquishes control to those around her, including her formerly absent mother.

Now, as she wills herself to regain her independence and heal, Sarah must learn that her real destiny—her new, true life—may in fact lie far from the world of conference calls and spreadsheets. And that a happiness and peace greater than all the success in the world is close within reach, if only she slows down long enough to notice.

7 – FAVORITE NEW TO YOU OR DEBUT AUTHOR

I picked up one of Coben’s books one day and wanted more.  A steady stream of his books made their way from the library to my house.  I’ve read just about all of them.  Except maybe Home. That’s on my TBR list 🙂

8 – YOUR NEW FICTIONAL CRUSH

When I was reading the series, I discovered that BBC also created a series of TV shows based on the books!  Kenneth Branagh played Wallander and did an amazing job.

10 – A BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

The Book Thief is set in Germany during World War 2.  It’s about a girl, Liesel and it is narrated by Death.

Beautifully written and poignant.  And yes, I cried.

11 – A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

This book is a middle grade novel by my friend and author Sherry Ramsey!  Sherry is not only a fantastic writer, she is an amazing person and is continually promoting writing in our community.  She runs our bi-monthly writers group and teaches writing in the schools.

The book’s main character Rosinda grows wonderfully through the story as she learns her past and recovers her memory.

She is accompanied on her journey by a crow, a boy, a cat and a wolf.  What’s not to love about this?

12 – YOUR FAVORITE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION THAT YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR

Yes.  King Arthur.  Legend of the Sword.  Awesome movie.  If you haven’t seen it yet, you should.

The movie took quite a bit of artistic license with the legend, but its okay.  Because it was that good.

13 – FAVORITE BOOK POST YOU’VE PUBLISHED THIS YEAR

You can check it out my post here:

The Mists of Avalon

14 – THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU HAVE BOUGHT/RECEIVED THIS YEAR

Most of the books I’ve read this year have been either library books or on my Kindle so, although its not from this year, I’ll show one of my favourite books from my library.  I pinched these pics from the web, but I have the same book 🙂

It’s illustrated!  With actual pictures from all the sites that Robert Langdon visited!  Love this book.

Look at the photos! Aren’t they gorgeous?!

15 – WHAT ARE SOME BOOKS THAT YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

There are so many more…seriously!

I TAG:

Book Dilettante

Off Color Literature

Read and Repeat

My Blogging Motivators

  • Things:
    • (1) Writing.  I’m fairly quiet, more of a listener that a talker, you could say! I started writing as a form of being able to express myself. Plus, I always have some story or another whirling around my head, why not harness it? What if?…is a constant question. My blog is a place where I can write, reach out and share with others.
    • (2) Sharing. I enjoy sharing a little bits of my life, art and pictures I’ve taken  on my walks.  I love being out in nature, and walking my dog, Burger.  It’s so calming and peaceful, and I try to bring that here for others to enjoy as well.
    • (3) Inspiring.  I’m inspired by the little things.  A pretty flower, reflections on water, a quote.  I share this through art, writing and this blog.  My goal is to encourage interaction and hopefully inspire others too.  For a while now, I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety.  All these things together help me feel better.  I hope it makes my readers feel good, too!

  • People:
    • (1) Definitely I have to say my online friends that I have met through blogging.  They read and comment and that helps to keep me going and wanting to create more posts.
    • (2) My dear friend Kerrie at the Geeky Book Lady!  She and I met through Nanowrimo write-ins years ago.  When we talk writing, the ideas are like whirlwinds ahaha, one plot story after another!  What are you working on now?  It’s great having someone to bounce your ideas off.
    • (3) My awesome cousint (not a typo) 😉  She’s always likes my stuff!  Thank you for being there, girlfriend! <3

My World Improving Action:

One thing that I hope will improve the world…treat each other with respect and kindness.  A kind word, a smile can go so far to make someones day.  You don’t know what someone might be going through.  Your actions, no matter how big or small, can have a profound difference on the world.

Challenging Question

If you could join the “TEAM” who’d be changing the world, what role would you play?

I’d be working quietly in the background.  Maybe painting a mural, or writing something on a wall. I’d want to put a smile on people’s faces as they walked by.

My Nominees Are:

Unpopular Opinions Tag

Jay at thisismytruthnow tagged me for the “Unpopular Opinions Book” tag 🙂 Thank you, Jay!  If you aren’t following his blog, you should check it out now!  He has tons of book reviews, great ideas and is just an all around great guy.

A POPULAR BOOK OR BOOK SERIES THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE:

I’ve heard so many people saying how much they enjoyed these books, and how they such a ‘feel good’ series that I had to check it out for myself  🙂

I was at the bookstore and flipped through some of the stories and I knew, right then and there, I would leave my credit card in my purse. Nope.  Not for me!  Just too much over the top sappiness.

A POPULAR BOOK OR BOOK SERIES THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO HATE BUT YOU LOVE:

I’ve heard rumblings that Dan Brown is an awful writer, that it’s just really, really bad writing, it’s predictable and overrated.

I loved this book, though! I loved the whole secret Illuminati thing…so mysterious!  What if!

I loved Robert Langdon’s character, and I liked Tom Hanks portrayal of him in the movie, too!  I know he wasn’t a popular pick, but I totally enjoyed it.

AN OTP (ONE TRUE PAIRING) THAT YOU DON’T LIKE:

I’m sure we thought these two were gone forever, but I brought them back for the purpose of this post.  Sorry if I ruined anyone’s breakfast!

Honestly, I’ve heard the books were good, though I’ve never read them myself.  I couldn’t get through the movies.  Sorry.  Just couldn’t.

A POPULAR BOOK GENRE THAT YOU HARDLY REACH FOR:

Fabio has amazing hair and a great body but I need more than that in a novel.  Romance just doesn’t cut it for me.  Sorry! The love at first sight or the love triangle can be so cliche.  Or the, I-don’t-like-you-but-there’s-somethig-about-you.

A POPULAR/BELOVED CHARACTER THAT YOU DO NOT LIKE:

The Cat in the Hat.  I feel like I’m going to get in trouble for this one!

I know it’s only a cartoon, but he makes such a mess… The mom in me was freaking out 😉

A POPULAR AUTHOR THAT YOU CAN’T SEEM TO GET INTO:

Nora Roberts.  I know she’s written tons of books and is incredibly popular.

I tried to like her books, really I did!  but I guess it’s that romance thing.

A POPULAR BOOK TROPE (OVERUSED PLOT DEVICE) THAT YOU’RE TIRED OF SEEING:

The post apocalyptic trope.  Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Hunger Games and Divergent but I’m good for now on those themes, thank you very much!

A POPULAR SERIES THAT YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN READING:

Nope.  No interest.  None.

Just  isn’t my thing.

THE SAYING GOES “THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE”, BUT WHAT MOVIE OR TV SHOW ADAPTATION DO YOU PREFER MORE THAN THE BOOK?:

I mean, the book was great and all, but so long!  The movie was long too, but awesome 🙂

Tag: This-Is-My-Truth-Now”

My friend, Jay at This is My Truth Now has started his very own tag!  He’s a great guy, and has a very active and interesting blog.  Check him out and have a look at these thought provoking questions:

The Challenge Questions

  1. You’re on your way to a birthday dinner that your friends have thrown for you. When you arrive, your favorite author is having dinner by himself or herself and asks you to sit with them, before you even see your friends or they see you. You have two choices: (1) You can sit with the author but can’t tell your friends that you’ve abandoned them for three hours, or (2) Meet your friends and lose the only chance you’ll ever have to talk with the author. Pick one or the other — no exceptions or communication to your friends to tell them about the author — and explain why.
    • I would love to meet J.K. Rowling, but seriously, will she be there for me when the chips are down?  Only if I want to read a book, right?  My family and friends have always been there for me and I’m there for them.  Sorry, J.K.!
  2. You’ve got an opportunity to spend a few hours alone “in your bedroom” with a character from any book you’ve previously read. The character tells you that (s)he would like to lock the door and spend some alone time with you. What book and character is it, and do you decide to enter the room and lock the door, or tell them you aren’t interested?
    • No.  No, I couldn’t.  That would be creepy lol!
  3. If you could turn any male character from one of your favorite books into a female character (or change a female into a male) in the book or book series, which one and why?
    • Tough question!  Umm…Can’t think of any!
  4. What blogger currently on your follower’s list (meaning they follow you too) do you admire the most and why?
    • That would be Jay, of course!  He’s at thisismytruthnow, the originator of this tag.  He always responds to comments, always has something interesting to say.  He’s fun
  5. If you could change any one decision your favorite book character made, what would it be and why?
    • Kurt Wallander from Henning Menkell’s Kurt Wallander series.   He’s a hard working Detective Inspector.  I love that he is a very authentic and real person who makes mistakes both on the job and in his personal life. He always seems to be pushing the ones he loves most away from him.  So, I would love to see him choose family and loved ones first.
  6. If you could pick 1 character from a book and 1 character from a TV show you watch (that is NOT based on a book) to be in a relationship together, who would you choose, and why?
    • Thought about this for a while, but I got nothing.  Sorry!
  7. It’s your last day on Earth. As you are about to cross that final finish line, a mysterious shadow appears, giving you a choice: (1) You can go move forward to whatever comes next for you [based on your own spiritual or religious beliefs], or (2) you can become a character in a book series and exist permanently doing whatever that author chooses to do with you in the book. Which do you choose, and if it’s option 2, reveal the book and author.Option 1.
  8. If you could steal a pet from someone in any book you’ve read, but had to replace it with a friend’s pet (meaning they wouldn’t ever see their pet again), would you do it?  If so, explain the who and why.
    • Noooo…I’m not that cruel!  But I love Rollo, young Ian’s part wolf and part Irish Wolfhound in Outlander 🙂  He’s such a loyal pup!
  9. If you could turn someone from your real life into a character from a book, who from your life, who in the book and why?
    • My main characters in the YA books I have been working on usually include my two sons.  Does that count?
  10. Post a picture of the cover of a book you read in 2000 and the book you are currently reading now. (Note: if you weren’t alive in 2000, pick the first book you ever read and tell everyone what year it was from).
    • Currently Reading
      •
    • 2000 Read
  11. Your favorite character (under 18) needs a place to stay for 3 months and asks you if (s)he could stay in your spare room (yes, you have one for the sake of this question). Who is it and what is the reason (s)he needs to stay with you?
    • Harry Potter needs to get away from the Dursleys and he needs to stay with a muggle family.  He picks us!
  12. Which of the 365 Daily Challenge posts most describes you? To see them all, you can go here. (Note: This is the question each person can change when they tag their own nominees)
    • I’m going to go with sensitive here, though I think quite a few would fit.

The Rules

Answer all 12 questions in The Challenge Questions section, but replace the 12th question with your own new one around telling the truth or revealing something interesting about yourself — you can leave the existing if you can’t think of something.
Be sure to copy/paste the “Truth or Dare” section at the end of this post. It’s important to the challenge — so you better carefully read it!
If you’ve haven’t been tagged, but you want to play along, you can totally jump on in and post responses to the tag on your blog.

TRUTH OR DARE: Oh, did I forget to tell you the last part of the ThisIsMyTruthNow tag? If you choose not to accept the tag, you have to follow through on whatever dare the person who tags you chooses — for my nominees, if you choose not to do this tag, your dare is to re-read [within the next 30 days] the book that has the lowest rating of all the books you’ve read in the last five (5) years. And if you don’t read it again, you’ll be cursed with bad book reads for the next five (5) years. HaHaHaHaHa!

My Nominations:

All of You!

Good luck!
